SayHi — Privacy Policy

SayHi (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is an intent-driven, low-pressure way to meet people nearby — it is not a dating app. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and your choices. We designed SayHi to be privacy-first.

Information we collect

• Approximate (coarse) location. With your permission, we use your approximate location to show people near you on the map. Your exact location is never collected or shared — coordinates are rounded to a coarse grid (~150 m) on your device, and distances are shown approximately (e.g. “~250 m”).
• Profile content you create. A nickname, an emoji/color avatar, interests, and an optional short “vibe”. No real name, photo, email, or phone number is required. You sign in anonymously — we do not create a personal account tied to your identity.
• Messages. Waves (“hi”) and chats are ephemeral and are deleted after 24 hours. A chat only opens when both people wave.
• Advertising & diagnostics (via Google AdMob). For free users, our advertising partner Google AdMob may collect a device identifier (IDFA), advertising data, product-interaction data, and crash/performance diagnostics to display and measure ads. See “Advertising & tracking” below.

Advertising & tracking

SayHi is free and supported by ads for non-subscribers. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. Before any tracking, the app asks for your permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt and Google’s consent flow. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalized using a tracking identifier. You can change your choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Subscribers to SayHi+ see no ads.

How we use data

• To show nearby people and make the map work (app functionality).
• To deliver and measure ads for free users.
• To keep the service reliable (crash & performance diagnostics).

We do not sell your personal data.

Data retention

Waves and chats are deleted after 24 hours. Your profile is stored on your device and, if signed in, in our backend (Google Firebase) under an anonymous identifier; you can delete it by removing the app or contacting us.

Your choices

• Decline or revoke location access in iOS Settings.
• Decline tracking via the App Tracking Transparency prompt or iOS Settings.
• Use Ghost mode and visibility controls inside the app.
• Report & block other users at any time.
• Request deletion of your data by emailing us.

Children

SayHi is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
